On 30 July Carl Zeiss Microscopy held a celebratory event in the Department of Engineering to mark the 50th anniversary of the first commercial scanning electron microscope. The event was attended by about 50 people involved in various stages of the SEM, from the early days of Cambridge Instrument Company in mid ‘60s to the current time. Carl Zeiss Microscopy Ltd. became a CAPE Associate company in February 2007 and since then it has been providing the University with equipment and associate services to further respective interests in the field of nanotechnology.
